Overview

Throughout Module 12, we explored the variability of sample statistics. We saw how the summary measure for a sample changes from sample to sample. Additionally, in Module 12, we typically used the population to generate the sampling distribution.

Now that we understand the underlying properties of our sample statistics, we want to extend these implications to the setting where we only have sample data. Using our sample data, we want to make a statement about a feature of the population. After all, we generally would like to be able to say something definitive about the population, even when we don't have full information.

In this module, we will learn how to apply our analyses from a sample along with our understanding of uncertainty to make a statement about an unknown population characteristic.
